About
The Drifter Story
It's hard to pinpoint exactly when the idea for Drifter began, but it seems to be around the time of this moment right here, with a literal (and figurative) leap of faith.
To tell the true story of Drifter we actually have to go back in time a little bit. 10 years or so, to be exact. Well, roughly exact or there would be no "or so" in that sentence. You get the drift.
ORIGIN STORY
It began with Overland
Just before overland become mainstream, and definitely before everyone and their dog threw "overland" in their company name, we formed a little brand called Overland Empire. We had many an adventure, went on trips, did the expo circuit, but then the aforementioned buble burst and we were no longer outsiders. We longed to be nomads again, and to break free from the bubble and distance ourselves. To set adrift, to seek broader horizons.
DAYS OF THUNDER
A need for speed
After a few years of driving slow in trucks there was an itch for speed that needed scratched. A few years and a couple cars later, along with track days, bloody knuckles, and 92 YouTube videos, and well there will always be a need for speed. But overland and race cars don't seem to go together...
JET LAG
And there was always travel
And there always will be. By truck, by plane, by boat, by motorcycle, by foot. Domestic and international. Exploration and adventure by land and sea. There is nothing that excites us more than setting foot somewhere new. So with all of these loves combined, plus surfing, fly fishing, and more, came that leap of faith.
All of this makes us who we are.
So this all started as a way to tell stories and document our travels. To unify and embody a life of adventure and exploration. Drifter, rover, wanderer, nomad, vagabond—different names with the same heart. A heart grounded in the open road. A sky full of stars above our heads. An adventure down every dirt road. A new country, town, or island waiting to be explored. A life ready to be lived.
Drifter Company doesn’t just tell these stories. We aim to live them. To speak from experience. Our products are just an extension of these stories and a way to bring us all together. A tribe of drifters. By ourselves but not alone.
See you out there.
